Aloe To The Rescue



Sometime in May 2014, my son had an accident with a metal chair.  

 Apparently, a fellow classmate placed the chair over a doorway and it fell and hit him on his head as he was passing through. 

To cut a long story short – when he got home and told me that the school nurse had cleaned it for him and stopped the bleeding, I immediately thought of my trusted aloe. 

I cut a piece of aloe, removed the clear gel and cut a piece just wide enough to cover the cut area. He spent the rest of the evening with this on his head. The only time it was removed was to replace the dried out section with a fresh piece. It only took about a week and a half for the cut to heal properly so that he could get a haircut! 

Before it was normally a headache to get him to use the aloe on his face but after witnessing its performance on his head, I can hardly keep up with him now. Every day he wants to put aloe on this, aloe on that! Talk about aloe mania!

I've been teaching him how to cut the aloe and remove the gel. Now he's adding it to his juices.

Bulimia & Anorexia Nervosa



I bumped into a friend the other day and she told me how she went on a diet and fitness programme and lost weight. She said that she was extremely fearful of putting the weight back on so she was avoiding snacks and sweets, among a long list of other things. 

To cut a long story short, this is not someone I normally spend a lot of time with so a few years later when I saw her again, I was a bit shocked! She looked so skinny and sickly that I hardly recognized her. I wondered if she had a problem…..

Bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa as I understand it are eating disorders.

Bulimia nervosa is when someone consumes a lot of food like a starving person, and then finds a way to remove it from their body before it can be processed.

Anorexia nervosa – it seems that these persons have a different view of their appearance. Even when they are seriously underweight, they still believe that they need to lose weight. They eat tiny amounts of food and basically starve their bodies because they are afraid of gaining weight.

This to me is saying that they don’t like the body they have and they don’t care about living. Because how can the body survive if it never gets a chance to extract all the nutrients it needs from the food? How can the body survive without sufficient food?

I love food and I absolutely detest throwing up or otherwise. Now I am nowhere near slim but I don’t think I could love myself if I did not have a little meat on my bones. I know that I could lose about 25-lbs but I have decided to just eat healthy. More fruits and vegetables and less carbohydrates, basically a little of everything and try my best to stick to my daily exercises.  

We are all born unique; some of us are slim and wish we could put on weight while some of us are constantly dieting and making ourselves ill in the process.

I feel for anyone who is bulimic or anorexic and I hope that in time they can find courage; courage to love life and love themselves for who they really are and remember that their true friends are the ones who will accept them for who they are.

Controlling Intestinal Gas Naturally

Intestinal gas, flatulence, farting or breaking wind is a natural part of the digestive process. This odorless gas, although at times embarrassing, is the result of good digestion. Every day our body produces one to three pints of gas that is ultimately passed. Intestinal gas is made up of oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide and methane. If we notice an unpleasant smell, it is because the gas contains other compounds, including hydrogen sulfide and ammonia.

Bacterium that lives in our intestinal tract is what produces most intestinal gas. It digests the food we eat; primarily sugars, starches and cellulose. When ingested sugars are not been properly broken down, they can ferment and produce gas as they pass through the small intestine. Contractions of the small intestine propel this gas through the large intestine, where it is expelled out the rectum. This prevents gas from accumulating in the body, which can cause cramping.

Certain foods produce more gas then others. Some healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, oatmeal, beans and peas often are the worst offenders. These foods are high in soluble fiber. Fiber slows the digestion of starches in the small intestine, thus promoting increased gas. Normally we pass gas about fourteen times a day. Intestinal gas is only considered excessive if it is being passed over twenty times per day.
